Some celebrity homes are known for their price. Shatrughan Sinha's Juhu house is better known for its name. Ramayan, the building where he and his family live, takes its name from the brothers and sons in the family, and it is built so that each person has a floor. This piece collects what was reported about the house and the family story behind it.

A name with a family behind it

Sinha's Wikipedia biography says he is the youngest of four brothers: Ram, Lakshman, Bharat and himself. His sons are Luv and Kush, and his daughter is the actor Sonakshi Sinha. The family house, which sits in Juhu, was named Ramayan accordingly.

His daughter has explained the logic with humour. In an NDTV report, Sonakshi Sinha said her father has three brothers named Bharat, Laxman and Ram, and that her brothers are Luv and Kush. "So my house is aptly named as Ramayan," she said. "Just my mom and I are a misfit in this Ramayan." The Times of India quotes her saying that sometimes "we also get to witness Mahabharat inside Ramayan".

From bungalow to ten storeys

The Economic Times, in a report published on 15 October 2026, says Sinha bought the bungalow in 1972, before his breakthrough with the 1976 film Kalicharan. The Times of India gives the same purchase year. Over the years it was rebuilt into a ten-storey building. The Economic Times reports that each family member has a floor of their own with a private lift, and the Times of India describes the design as a blend of modern architecture and classic warm interiors.

The rebuild was not quick. A Pune Mirror report, which we read without a visible date, said the house had been under construction since 2008, and that the family had moved out during the work. According to the paper, they stayed for some months at the Lokhandwala home of actor Amrita Singh, a friend since they worked together in Khudgarz in 1987, and then in Bandra, before returning to Ramayan. It said the family did not plan to rent out any floors, and that the remaining floors might serve as office space for a production house the father and daughter were readying to start.

Who lives where

Reports differ on the current arrangement. Magicbricks and the Times of India say Sonakshi lived on the top floor, with Luv and Kush also having their own space. Her own Wikipedia biography says she preferred to stay with her parents even after buying her own house, and that she finally moved out in 2023. The Economic Times article, which says she still occupies the top floor, appears to rely on older material, so we treat her present address as unconfirmed.

The value question

The Economic Times estimates the building at nearly Rs 90 crore, and says Jansatta puts it at about Rs 88 crore. These are media estimates. No sale has taken place and we found no registry record, so we do not repeat them as a valuation.

Why it stays a talking point

In Mumbai, where land is costly, the Economic Times notes that many celebrities choose to rebuild an existing home instead of moving. Ramayan is an example that has stayed in the public eye for years, partly because of the name and partly because of the rebuild.

What we could not confirm

We did not confirm the current occupants of each floor, the rebuild cost or the property value. The Pune Mirror report was not dated in the copy we read, and the Economic Times article itself conflicts with other sources on where Sonakshi lives.
