Kartik Aaryan has spent this autumn far from Mumbai. His next film, Captain India, went on floors in London in early September, and in October the unit moved down to the Devon coast, where Film Torbay says the crew shot overnight at two locations, including the historic Beacon Cove in Torquay. With the schedule expected to run until the end of October, here is a city-by-city look at where the film has taken its star, and what has been officially said about it.

Mumbai to London, on a healing knee

Variety reported in late August that principal photography would begin in London in September, with the shoot expected to wrap by the end of October. The Times of India and India Today put the start date at 1 September.

The journey began with a post that read like a flight plan. Bollywood Hungama reported on 5 September that Kartik had shared a travel picture holding the shooting draft of Captain India, with director Shimit Amin's name on the cover, captioned "VABB to EGLL". The outlet read the codes as his journey from Mumbai to London; they are the airport codes for Mumbai and London Heathrow.

The same post offered a glimpse of his injured foot. India Today reported that the actor was hurt on 18 August while shooting an action scene for Kabir Khan's untitled sports drama, in the final two days of that shoot, and underwent knee surgery at Fortis Raheja Hospital in Mahim before recovering at home. Bollywood Hungama said he had been advised to take time to recover.

A National Award, then back to the set

In September the London schedule paused for a very different city stop. CineTalkers reports that Kartik was named Best Actor at the 72nd National Film Awards, held in Gujarat on 22 September, for Chandu Champion.

When he returned to London, the unit was ready. IANS, in a report carried by Lokmat Times on 26 September, said the team celebrated the win on set, with Kartik cutting a cake in a clip shared by co-producer Baweja Studios. "Welcome back Captain @kartikaaryan. Team #CaptainIndia is super proud to have you back on sets and we can't stop celebrating!!" the studio wrote, adding that the film now had both a National Award winning director and a National Award winning actor on board.

Kartik's own post from the ceremony looked back at where he started. "Looking back affectionately with a smile at that mumma's boy from Gwalior who dared to dream of becoming an actor from an environment, where people laugh at such dreams, and move forwards," he wrote, as quoted by IANS.

Overnight at Beacon Cove

The most recent location update came from the English seaside rather than the film's team. In a post shared on 14 October, Film Torbay said it had the pleasure of hosting the Captain India production at historic Beacon Cove "at the weekend". The crew filmed overnight at two locations in Torbay, according to the post, and it described the project as an aviation based thriller to be released internationally in 2027. It did not say which scenes were shot.

The cove carries its own story. According to the English Riviera tourism body, it was once the Ladies' Bathing Cove, where striped bathing machines were lowered down the pebbles so women could swim straight out to sea. It was also a favourite swimming spot of a young Agatha Christie, who was born in Torquay in 1890 and once nearly drowned there while towing her nephew, before a boatman the family called "the Old Sea Horse" rescued her. Nearby Beacon Quay holds a D-Day memorial beside slipways built for American troops embarking for Operation Overlord, the same guide notes.

What the film is, according to its makers

Captain India is directed by Shimit Amin, best known for Chak De! India and Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year. Variety reports that it draws on India's real-life evacuation of citizens from a war-torn country, from a screenplay by Nash Vazifdar, Sanchit Gupta and Priyadarshee Shrivastava. Bollywood Hungama says Kartik plays a pilot.

The film is produced by Bhushan Kumar's T-Series and Baweja Studios with Dopamine Studios, with S.B. Films handling production, per Variety. The trade paper also recalls that a film called Captain India was first announced in 2021 with Hansal Mehta attached to direct and Kartik set to play a pilot in the rescue mission. The Times of India notes that Amin came on board later. It is now set for release on 13 August 2027, the Independence Day weekend.

The next stops on the map

Kartik's slate keeps him on the move. India Today reports that in Kabir Khan's sports drama he plays a kickboxing coach who mentors a young girl from Kashmir, in a story reportedly inspired by the Kashmiri kickboxing champion Tajamul Islam. The same report lists Naagzilla, directed by Mrighdeep Singh Lamba, and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 4 among his upcoming films.

For now, the focus stays on England. If the schedule holds to the end-of-October target reported by Variety, the Captain India unit has only a couple of weeks left in the country. The makers have not yet announced where the film goes next, or whether further overseas schedules are planned.
